ANDREW Ritchie CBE is the Director of Goodenough College, an independent residential college for international postgraduate students in Bloomsbury. He took up this appointment on leaving the British Army in July 2006.

He was a soldier for 34 years and saw service in many parts of the world including Belize, Germany, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Cyprus and Bosnia.

His principal staff posts in the Army were as Director of Public Relations and Director of Personnel Policy. He completed his military career in the rank of major general as Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

He is a governor of Marlborough College and Princess Helena College and a trustee of the British Forces Foundation. He is a Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery, Honorary Colonel of 100 Yeomanry Regiment (Volunteers) and President of the Royal Artillery Hunt.

He is married to Camilla, an investment fund manager, and they have three children and three dogs. His interests include hunting, opera, tennis and golf. He is also a Chelsea fan.
