DAVID Crwys-Williams was born in 1940 and educated at Oakham School. He entered the RAF College, Cranwell, in 1958 and graduated as a pilot in 1961.

Following tours on Beverley transport aircraft and as an ADC he commanded No.46 Squadron (Andovers), did a tour as OC Operations at Masirah in the Oman, and then attended the Army Staff College.

After a time as Personal Staff Officer to the C-in-C Near East Air Force and Commander British Forces Cyprus, he became OC No.230 Squadron (Puma helicopters) and then served as a Personnel Officer in the Air Secretary's Department.

In 1979 he became Deputy Director of Air Plans in MOD and subsequently commanded RAF Shawbury, the RAF's main helicopter and air traffic control training station. He was promoted to Air Commodore and attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in 1985, after which he became Director of Air Support, and subsequently Director of Air Force Staff Duties.

Promoted to Air Vice-Marshal on 1st July 1988, he was Commander British Forces Falkland Islands from August 1988 to August 1989. Subsequently he became Director-General of RAF Personal Services until October 1992.

David Crwys-Williams was appointed Deputy Managing Director of The Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC) in February 1993 and became Group Managing Director from November 1993 to 2005.

He has previously been Executive Chairman of The European Broadcasting Corporation and was the founding Managing Director of Teleport London International (TLI) and Visua Ltd. He is Chairman of The New Island South Conservation Trust, a Governor of Amersham and Wycombe College, and Trustee of the RAF Museum and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People as well as of The British Forces Foundation.

He was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1990. He and his wife, Suzie, have three grown up children: Huw, Kirsty and Claire.
